about production
For those of us who think of aerial work in terms of circus, stunts and Chinese action movies, this show combines the energy and excitement of flying with the beauty and skill of modern dance.
Brenda Angiel re-invents the tango, hip-hop street dance and ballet to an achingly cool live soundtrack (think Gotan Project) written specially for the show.
The dancers break the boundaries, dancing against the walls, on the floor, and floating through the air, creating a kaleidoscope of movement and animation.
Originally from Buenos Aires, in 1988 Brenda went to the U.S. to further her training at New York’s Cunningham Studio and Nikolais/Louis Dance Lab, and in Durham at the American Dance Festival. In New York City, her work was presented at the Dance Theater Workshop as part of the Fresh Tracks Performance Series and at The Kitchen. In 1991 Brenda returned to Buenos Aires where she worked very intensively with the Colón Theatre‘s Opera and Ballet Experimentation Center. In 1997, she won the prize for “best video-dance” for La pared at the 1997 International Video-Dance Festival of Buenos Aires.
Brenda founded the First Aerial Dance School in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where classes are taught for kids, teenagers and adults. She has also taught workshops while the company is on tour and as part of the faculty at the American Dance Festival and at the Aerial Dance Festival in Colorado. She has also been the Artistic Director of CIUDANZA Festival of Dance in the Urban Landscape in Buenos Aires and the dance curator of the Rojas Cultural Centre of Buenos Aires University.

"Ms Angiel...is the most choreographically inventive aerial dancer I have encountered.
For the most part Ms Angiel does not play on her Latin heritage , but when she does, as in a tango...the results are spectacular sensuous and breathtaking."
